. Regatta Hotel ca. 1940 In 1885 William Winterford commissioned architect Richard Gailey to design the Regatta Hotel located on the corner of River Drive and Sylvan Road Toowong, Brisbane. A feature of this three-storey building is the wide verandahs, designed to catch the river breezes and take in the extensive views of the Brisbane River. The Regatta Hotel took its name from the regattas held on the Toowong Reach of the river by the Brisbane Rowing Club, which opened in 1875. (Information taken from: W.
